Where is Disposable Level 1 gowns used

Disposable Level 1 isolation gowns are designed for minimal risk situations and are commonly used in the following settings

Basic Patient Care

Level 1 gowns can be worn during routine patient care tasks like taking vital signs, assisting with ambulation, or helping with daily activities in hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare facilities. They provide a basic barrier against minor fluid splashes or soiling.

Standard Isolation Precautions

These gowns are suitable for use as part of standard precautions in healthcare settings to prevent the spread of infections between patients or from patients to staff. They act as a simple cover gown over clothing.

Visitor Gowns

Level 1 disposable gowns are often provided to visitors entering patient rooms or areas where protective apparel is required, such as isolation units or during infectious disease outbreaks. This helps prevent outside contaminants from being brought into the area.

General Medical Units

On standard medical/surgical floors with minimal fluid exposure risk, Level 1 gowns can be worn by staff during routine patient interactions and procedures.

Hospice and Long-Term Care Facilities

Level 1 gowns are suitable for use in hospice settings, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities where basic care is provided with a low risk of exposure to bodily fluids.

Pet Healthcare Facilities

In veterinary clinics and animal hospitals, Level 1 gowns can be used by staff during routine exams, basic treatments, and interactions with pets where there is little risk of fluid exposure.

They provide a protective barrier while handling animals. It's important to note that while Level 1 gowns offer some barrier protection, they are not appropriate for situations involving blood, bodily fluids, or higher-risk activities like blood draws, surgery, or working with infectious diseases. In those cases, higher-level gowns (Levels 2-4) would be required to ensure proper protection.
